Past Projects

Junior League of Reno’s past projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Teenage Opportunity Program (T.O.P.) – a work program for 9th – 12th graders
  • “Adventures in Seeing” – an art appreciation slide presentation for 3rd & 4th graders
  • Behavioral Treatment Center – a program for emotionally disturbed pre-school children
  • Voluntary Action Center (V.A.C.) – a volunteer placement bureau and data bank, that was turned over to the United Way of Northern Nevada in 1981
  • “Officer Ugg” – a poison prevention program
  • Kids on the Block – a puppet program addressing the problems of disabled children. This program is still in existence today, managed by The Assistance League of Reno-Sparks
  • Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) – a program that coordinates the treatment of children placed in state foster care
  • A Girl Scout Drug Awareness Patch
  • Elder Ed – a film program to aid seniors in wise drug usage
  • TOMA Drug Awareness Coalition – a program encouraging children and adults to become more aware of and learn alternatives to drugs
  • Wilbur D. May Great Basin Adventure: The “Discovery Room” at the Wilbur D. May Great Basin Adventure Park – a place for children, grades kindergarten through six, to discover the world of nature by actually handling items from the Great Basin area
  • The Ronald McDonald House – which provides lodging for families of hospitalized children
  • “I’m in Charge” Latchkey program – a program which enhanced the quality of self-care for both parents and children
  • “Smoking Education Coalition” – a program, which provided fourth grade students with information on the health hazards of tobacco use
